Although the Baby Boomer generation is living longer than their parents and grandparents did, they are not as healthy as previous generations according to recent research. Obesity and lack of exercise have caused as many as 80% of them to suffer from chronic conditions, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and heart disease.
Even those among the elderly that are healthy have special medical issues that can be debilitating. Many healthcare insiders predict that by 2030, knee replacements surgeries will occur 8 times more frequently than they do today. In addition, more seniors who are active are injured in falls than younger people. These statistics indicate a growing need for senior housing and assisted living facilities.
Active Communities
Not all senior citizens need around-the-clock medical attention and prefer to live in communities where they can remain active and full self-sufficient. Senior facilities and assisted living facilities designed for the active senior often provide apartments or condominiums where senior citizens live as a fully independent tenant. Some do provide additional services, such as panic buttons or periodic checks by staff to determine the welfare of a tenant, but these services are designed to be less intrusive than that which is provided by full care facilities. In my real estate training, I can teach you how to develop an active senior facility that older people will enjoy living in.
Nursing Homes
Many elderly peopledo need more advanced medical care as they get older, and these seniors may choose to enter a nursing home with round-the-clock medical care. However, even these types of facilities can allow the senior to have a sense of independence as they can be designed in such a way that they don’t have the hospital feel that nursing homes often have. In my real estate course, you will learn creative ways to develop senior housing and assisted living facilities.
The Baby Boomer generation is growing older and manyof them are not as healthy as generations before them, making the need for senior housing and assisted living facilitieseven more important than it was in years past. For more information on my real estate training, visit CMREI.
